Thank you for your interest in Daniel's music. 

Welcome to "FearYourself.com."  This site is part of a growing network of friends and fans of Daniel Johnston who think our exposure to his music and art has been enriching - but we also recognize that some of what makes Daniel so honest and compelling (his difficulties in life) also threatens his future. (see BACKGROUND).

We aspire here - as with many prominent people on other projects - to expose the world to Daniel Johnston's work, hoping to produce a brighter future for him, and even to rescue him from a dismal fate in his retirement years.  

Such undertakings are responses to Daniel made spontaneously, without compensation and often without collaboration with others who share the same goals.

This project - FearYourself.com - is a web site for COLLEGE RADIO and ALTERNATIVE COMMERCIAL RADIO to access music, background, and news about Daniel for use in radio broadcast. 

The content is provided without charge (and with the approval of the artist) to make it easy for dj's and program managers to integrate the "Daniel Johnston experience" into their school's music culture.  We believe this will enrich appreciation of music and art for it's own sake, and encourage honest expression in life.

"Fear Yourself" is also the name of Daniel Johnston's latest CD from Gammon Records, a collaboration of Daniel Johnston and Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse (courtesy of Capitol Records).    Mark is an example of a successful professional going out of his way to benefit Daniel.  Mark's production of Daniel's singing succesfully leaves Daniel's private intensity exposed while providing support to the musical idea.

Other prominent friends and mentors of Daniel include Davie Bowie, Matt Groening (of The Simpsons), and an impressive list of bands and musicians including the late Kurt Cobain and Nirvana.  Many people don't realize he has made appearances on MTV, on numerous movie sound tracks, in commercials, in Rolling Stone magazine and others.  He has been pursued by labels such as Electra and Atlantic Records (1994 "Fun" was Atlantic label).

If you are associated with COLLEGE RADIO or COMMERCIAL ALTERNATIVE MUSIC RADIO, we encourage you to register, explore what the site has to offer, and return often for music and commentary to use in your radio programming.  We can provide for station-specific or program-specific spots, and with planning, we can arrange on-air telephone interviews with Daniel.
