December 2003 - CASSETTE TAPE ARCHIVE April 13, 1981 Daniel and David Thornberry spent a lot of time together becoming immersed in almost any kind of creative express, from radio-drama creations (you'll see some in future tapes), sculpting in the snow, characterizations of people, spoofs on incidents in life, etc. In this tape, Daniel arrives at David Thornberry's apartment with the cassette tape player running. They start off playfully pretending not to be pretending. They have a minimal-word ("you know what I mean?") descriptions of their observations of art, what art is, the creative process, finding a place and acceptance in the world and for what they do, a critique of renown cartoonist of the day, the "right" to be what you are, aspiring to creativity or fame, and on and on. It is a total spontaneous conversation, but very enthralling, and a worth-while philosophical reflection on the value, process, and place of art and creativity in the world. Enjoy. |
