Fest to serve up acts at Music Café

By IAN MOHR

NEW YORK -- The Sundance Film Festival has booked a bevy of alt rockers, world musicians and legendary names -- from Ben Kweller and Angelique Kidjo to Michael McDonald and Rickie Lee Jones -- to play its annual Sundance Music Cafe program next month.

Also slated to play the Jan. 21-29 fest are Southern revivalists Kings of Leon, Suzanne Vega, Peter Cincotti and Saul Williams.

The event, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of music in film, is housed within Park City, Utah, music venue Plan B.

Daytime programming at the Music Cafe will be produced by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Up to five acts will play the venue daily, performing 40-minute sets.

Two evening lineups have been skedded this year. Those slates include Calexico; Daniel Johnston; Yo La Tengo, indie rockers Alaska!; and a trio of Sundance Lab composer fellows, Gary Louris, Raz Mesinai and Pete Fitzpatrick.

In past years, Sundance's Music Cafe has hosted performer including India.Arie, Ben Harper, Emmylou Harris, Joe Jackson, Johnny Lang, Daniel Lanois and Damien Rice.
