NEW YORK -- The Sundance Film Festival
has booked a bevy of alt rockers, world musicians and legendary
names -- from Ben Kweller and Angelique Kidjo to Michael McDonald
and Rickie Lee Jones -- to play its annual Sundance Music Cafe
program next month.
Also slated to play the Jan. 21-29
fest are Southern revivalists Kings of Leon, Suzanne Vega, Peter
Cincotti and Saul Williams.
The event, which aims to raise
awareness of the importance of music in film, is housed within Park
City, Utah, music venue Plan B.
Daytime programming at the Music
Cafe will be produced by the American Society of Composers, Authors
and Publishers. Up to five acts will play the venue daily,
performing 40-minute sets.
Two evening lineups have been
skedded this year. Those slates include Calexico; Daniel Johnston;
Yo La Tengo, indie rockers Alaska!; and a trio of Sundance Lab
composer fellows, Gary Louris, Raz Mesinai and Pete Fitzpatrick.
In past years, Sundance's Music
Cafe has hosted performer including India.Arie, Ben Harper, Emmylou
Harris, Joe Jackson, Johnny Lang, Daniel Lanois and Damien Rice.
