ANSWER to the JUNE 2003 QUIZ QUESTION #1

Because of the expense incurred, a limited number of copies was published and made available for sale - again with the express permission of Daniel Johnston - in return for a copy and in exchange for a piece of art. 

However, the public outcry from fans at the "apparent" commercialization of Daniel's work halted that effort and they withdrew from any further sales.

It is nice to know that there is such support and defense of Daniel from all around the world, and that there are MANY who would jump through flaming hoops to stop abuse of Daniel's work.  However, be assured that this was not an abuse, but a favor to Daniel.

The 13 CD set (soon to become 14 CDs) was done with much care and expense, designing and printing each CD and case with art off the web.   If some of that art happens to be art in your collection, our apologies for the "apparent" exploitation - but again, it was not really a money making undertaking, and the limited sales was to recoup costs at Daniel's permission.

For the record, Daniel is not opposed to the TRADING of bootleg material among fans (as opposed to PUBLISHED material that defies copyright laws and impacts sales).   The bootleg material available is immense, as we've discovered.
